How To Make Pango Listings That Get Your Books Sold

Whether you already have hundreds of listings on your Pango shop already or are gearing up to create your first, there are some key strategies you can employ to create listings that get your books sold. Read on to learn our tips and tricks for selling on PangoBooks.

1. Use Bright, Consistent Photos

When a potential buyer searches for a book, they see every listing that’s currently available on Pango. Depending on the popularity and availability of the title, a search can generate hundreds of listings for the same book.

So how do you make sure your listing stands out? Use bright, attractive photos.

Listings with clear, well-lit photos are more likely to stop the scroll and bring views to your shop. We have a full guide on the book photography best practices here, but you want to always make sure the book cover is clearly visible, in focus, and free of shadows. We also recommend aiming for a consistent photo style and background across all the listings on your shop.

2. Include Multiple Photos

While we are on the subject of listing photos, did you know that you can upload more than one picture for each book?

We highly recommend using this feature to give potential buyers more information about your book. Show off the back cover, any decorative features such as deckled or sprayed edges, and even your favorite passages. Have a signed copy? Great! Upload a photo of that signature.

Including multiple photos is also a helpful way of communicating to buyers the exact condition of your book. For example, if you have a book whose back cover is slightly bent, just putting “damaged” in the description may scare buyers off. However, including a photo of the damage gives buyers more information and help them make an informed purchasing decision.

Sellers can even add additional photos to already existing listings, which means that anyone who wants to take advantage of this strategy doesn’t need to delete and relist any books. Simply click on the edit button and add your new photos. It’s that easy.

3. Provide More Information with the Description Field

While you do not need to write a description in order to list a book, this field is a great way to improve your listing and help get your book sold.

Think of the description as your opportunity to explain to potential buyers why this book is worth a read. You can include a brief synopsis of the book, mention other titles that are similar in themes or writing style, describe the mood or vibe of the book, and even your favorite quotes.

Descriptions are also a great place to give more information on the condition of your book. Buyers will appreciate having more information on any imperfections such as dog-ears, highlights, bent corners, and more.

Some sellers also use the description space to explain why they’re selling a book. Maybe you got a second copy of a book you already own for your birthday. Using the description to explain what you liked about the book and why you’re selling it is a proven strategy to convert listing viewers to book buyers.

4. Be Thoughtful With Hashtags

Not every buyer on PangoBooks is searching for a specific book. Using hashtags increases your listing’s chances of being discovered.

When using hashtags, you always want to consider the book’s genre, style, and format. But you can also be creative and think about the tropes, moods, and themes of your book.

For example, if you are selling a paperback copy of Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, you can tag your listing with #donnatartt, #fiction, and #paperback. However, you will increase the discoverability of your listing if you also include hashtags such as #darkacademia, #campusnovel, and #greekmythology.

You may also want to use hashtags to communicate anything special about your specific edition of a book. Is it a #signedcopy or #firstedition? Is it a special edition from a book subscription service like #illumicrate or #fairyloot? Creating a listing with these relevant hashtags will help your book get seen by people searching for these editions on Pango and beyond.

5. Research the Pricing

PangoBooks sellers have the power to decide how much they want to charge for their own books. But if you want some guidance on pricing, we’ve got you covered.

We recommend using 50% of the original retail price as a starting point and then adjusting based on the condition of the book and its availability on PangoBooks. For example, if you have a well-worn copy of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, you would want to lower the rate more than the initial 50% to account for the condition. You should also search what other sellers are pricing their copies of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes at and adjust your rate accordingly.
