Surface remains indicated that there had been at least two churches at the pueblo, and evidence of a third church was discovered through archival research in 1956. Not until 1967 did archaeologists discover that there had been four churches at Pecos. The author of this book was a member of the National Park Service team of archaeologists that excavated the site and discovered the fourth church. Here he surveys the history of Pecos and describes the architecture of all four churches, devoting extensive attention to the most recent archaeological discoveries, which have never before been described in print.
