A cool idea, people riding Phoenixes instead of dragons. Unfortunately, we don't get enough time with our feathered mounts and instead focus on predictable plot points and dull characters.

Loved the phoenix instead of the usual dragon and the setting on the mountainside. The world building was solid and I had a good sense of the politics, physical world, and history. Loved the little stories and histories interspersed between the chapters.
