He earned a Ph.D. in music composition from the University of California at Berkeley. He has performed, taught, and lectured across North America and Europe. His awards include three Nicola De Lorenzo Prizes in composition, three Meet the Composer grants, and a commission from the Koussevitzky Foundation of the Library of Congress. He has composed over 40 instrumental and vocal works.
