Pretty and immersive, however a common theme in Saft’s books a soft acceptance and even approval over colonialism. Has been very off putting to read, especially spliced in academic, magical reads.

This book is so full of yearning and I wish people would talk about it more. The ending could have been better, maybe even left open for a duology (Saft isnt great at the political bits) but if you want intricate characters, beautiful relationships, and yearning, this book has that!
