This is a slow-paced family drama. The story is told from 2 Points of View (POV). The POV’s alternate between sisters, Mae and Amanda. While the pace is slow and even seems to drag in a few spots, it picks up in the last third of the book. The characters are a well-developed, diverse and lovable. The drama revolves around the 2 restaurants started by feuding sisters. Those same restaurants are being run by their descendants and the feud is going strong. Amanda who is the daughter of Mimi’s owner marries into the Frannie’s family. The restaurants are struggling so she applies for a spot on Food Wars and they get it. This brings Mae back home since she was just let go from her job the timing could not have been better. The town is excited for Food Wars and they all chose sides. The producer keeps the pot stirred on both sides. Spilling family secrets and spreading rumors and fueling the heated competition between the sisters and restaurants. No spoilers here. You will have to read it to find out what happens. There are some great laugh out loud moments as well as some heartbreaking ones. Recommended for anyone who likes: Family drama with a dash of found family, sprinkles of friendships, and pinch soul searching.
