Seller Description
Two books that pair nicely. “The Great Daughter of India” is about Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, who in 1953, became the first woman to be elected president of the UN General Assembly. Published in 1946 in India, book is faded and worn with a few pages present but not attached to the binding. “Shadows on the Wall” is written by Krishna Nehru (sister of the aforementioned) and it’s an account of some women she met in prison. First published in India in 1946, this book is the first American edition (1948). Pages are toned with age and DJ has several tears. Both women are sisters of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Their niece, Indira Gandhi, was the first female Prime Minister of India. Their brother was the first Prime Minister of Independent India. Interesting family. Each book 5.25” x 7.5”.#vintage#history#biography#India#hardcover#bundle#government#prison#politics#freedom (Shelf 6F)
