The author was born in Togo, Africa in 1977. Until his death in 1993, her father protected her from the tribal practice of polygamy and genital mutilation (done without painkillers or antibiotics). Hours before the ritual, she escaped to Germany and then the US seeking asylum. In the US, she was locked in detention for 16 months. Ex-library copy with the usual markings.
