THE SYSTEMATIC APPROACH to diagnostic radiology contained in "Roentgen Signs in Clinical Diagnosis" has achieved considerable acceptance. Many radiologists and residents in radiology and allied specialties have endorsed this approach to the study of radiology. Medical students and general practitioners have also found that text very helpful, but the medical students in particular have found the volume of material presented difficult to absorb in the limited time they can afford. From several quarters we have received the request for a synopsis or outline of "Roentgen Signs in Clinical Diagnosis" to facilitate more rapid study. In using the text in the teaching of medical students over the past eight years, we found our emphasis to be repeatedly along certain lines. In this text, we have been guided by our experience in the use of "Roentgen Signs in Clinical Diagnosis." Certain abbreviations, outlines, pointed emphases, omissions of material and study aids (such as the questions following each chapter) were so obviously necessary for the average student that we decided to publish this synopsis for those who might prefer it over the larger text.
