Leanne Shapton

Leanne Shapton is a Canadian author, artist, and publisher known for her distinctive visual and narrative style. She has worn many hats throughout her career, including that of an illustrator, art director, and designer. Shapton's work often blurs the lines between fiction and nonfiction, and she uses a mix of prose, photography, and original artwork to explore themes such as memory, personal history, and the nuances of everyday life. Some of her well-known books include "Swimming Studies," which won the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for autobiography, "Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry," which is a fictional auction catalog, and "Guestbook: Ghost Stories," a collection of visual stories. Shapton also co-founded the New York-based publishing imprint J&L Books, which is dedicated to art and photography books. Her innovative and eclectic approach to storytelling has earned her a unique place in the literary and artistic landscape.
