David Rakoff was a Canadian-born writer, essayist, and actor, best known for his humorous and sometimes poignant observations on contemporary culture and his own experiences. He wrote with a sharp wit and a distinctive voice, often exploring themes of identity, consumerism, and the human condition. Rakoff was a regular contributor to the radio program "This American Life" and he also published several collections of essays, including "Fraud," "Don't Get Too Comfortable," and "Half Empty." His writing earned him a dedicated following and several awards, including the Thurber Prize for American Humor for his last book, "Half Empty." Tragically, Rakoff passed away in 2012 at the age of 47 after a battle with cancer. His final work, the novel in verse "Love, Dishonor, Marry, Die, Cherish, Perish," was published posthumously.
