Oprah's Book Club on Pango

In 1996, Oprah launched her book club with a segment on her popular daytime talk show. Her mission? To “get the whole country reading again.”

Since then, Oprah’s sticker seal of approval has launched authors' careers and introduced readers to a variety of books. In 1029, she expanded her reach with the Apple TV+ series, Oprah's Book Club, in which she interviews the authors of her book club picks. Interviewees have included Ta-Nehisi Coates, Isabel Wilkerson, and Marilynne Robinson.

In 2023, the media mogul celebrated a milestone by selecting her 100th book club pick: Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. After all these years, Oprah’s stamp of approval holds just as much weight when it comes to creating bestsellers. Debut Authors

While Oprah's Book Club often includes works by established authors like Charles Dickens, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Toni Morrison, Oprah is not afraid to spotlight new voices. In 2021, she chose The Sweetness of Water and even interviewed author Nathan Harris on her show, Oprah's Book Club. The next year, she selected Nightcrawling, written by the then-twenty-year-old Leila Mottley. See more of Oprah's favorite coming of age narratives below.
