Random Number Lit - Proto List Call of the Wild came to be a part of this list in one of the strangest ways but it added to my fervor to start such a strange project. I had listened to and enjoyed Frankenstein because I was reading another book that demanded I knew more than I did which shamed me a little. Then I was listening to a podcast, The Flophouse, where they were going to spoil the movie and in someways the book had the listener not read the book yet. I think there was a direct call to the listener that if you had not read the book to do so before they ruined it by making fun of it. I pressed pause, listened to an audiobook version of it in a day I think and then resumed listening to the podcast. This process, coupled with the Frankenstein, experience kept the idea alive in my mind to embark on reading all of the books. This book seems like the most unlikely classic novel of all time. I didn't enjoy this book exactly but its legacy is remarkable to me. I didn't get what was happening here until much later when I read a minor and not particularly remarkable poet, Robert Service where I finally got the sense of what these men were doing in journeying to and exploiting the Yukon. I think this book is important but its status as a classic work is mystifying to me. London is an accomplished writer. I think he writes convincing prose and his subject matter is compelling and urgent seeming but I did not care for this book. That being said, it has cast a long shadow on the American literary mind and storytelling since. Every book sold will include a short reflection on my reading experience. There will also be a bookmark and a sticker included in the volume. Each book bought is an invitation to a conversation with me in whatever medium and method the reader would prefer. #paperback#yareads#classic#classiclit#classics#classicliterature#Americanlit#americanliterature#fiction#novel
