Seller Description
This is an antique copy of William Makepeace Thackeray's The History Of Henry Esmond, Esq. Originally published in 1852, this particular copy was printed in 1908. The novel is set in the late 18th and early 19th-century, and follows a British colonel in the service of Queen Anne. Note the ornate title page illustration work. This copy is unique in that it contains errata, or printing errors, which some view as a collectible attribute. This is evident in the Table of Contents and in the Editor's Introduction, which are rendered practically illegible due to the text being double-printed. Luckily, I do not believe this error extends into the text of the novel itself if the buyer wishes to read the book, although the printing errors are certainly a historical curiosity. Aside from the errata, this book is in very good antique condition. The cover is in excellent shape with only some minor damage at the top of the spine. There is a blue dot painted on the bottom of the pages (see photos). The binding is still intact. There is no writing or highlighting in the text, margins, or inside the cover.
