Seller Description
#classic#humor#Britlit#Englishliterature#dickens#litcrit#annotated#NortonCritical#19thcentury#paperback This is an older Norton Critical Edition of the Dickens masterpiece, David Copperfield. As to condition, I bought the book for grad school back in 1995, and it looks like an older paperback, in terms of slightly browning pages and faded colors, especially on the spine, where the shelved book has been exposed to the sun for decades. The only mark in the book is my name and the date written at the top of the first title page. Sorry about that. I was tempted to rip out the page—it's dispensable—but I didn't. Description from the back of the book: This Norton Critical Edition reprints the original 1850 text of Dickens' most autobiographical novel, and his own personal favorite, including all of the line drawings by Phiz that accompanied the first edition. The editor has made necessary typographical corrections and carefully introduced and annotated the text for the student reader. Dickens' number plans for David Copperfield, which reveal his practice both as a serial writer and as a craftsman, are also included. The Backgrounds section focuses on Dickens' personal involvement with and response to the novel's publication. Included are passages from his letters relating to David Copperfield, an autobiographical fragment, his preface to the 1869 edition of the novel, and a relevant excerpt from Little Dorrit. The Criticism section is comprised of twelve essays by distinguished Dickensians representing a wide range of judgment and analysis. The essayists are John Forster, Matthew Arnold, E. K. Brown, Gwendolyn B. Needham, Monroe Engel, I. Hillis Miller, Mark Spilka, Harry Stone, Bert G. Hornback, Garrett Stewart, Robert L. Patten, and Alexander Walsh. A Chronology of Dickens' Life and Works and a Selected Bibliography are also included. ----- I donate all money made from these book sales to local non-profits (SE Pennsylvania) that help people facing a wide range of crises.
Overview
