Artifacts, 73: His dad had gone on about the kid and about how irresponsible it was to use tech we didn't understand, especially when we didn't even know what exactly we didn't understand about it. Aaron couldn't follow all of it but got the gist: Artifacts were dangerous. But how could that be? They were everywhere. Some were used as-is, some were modified, some were carved into ever-smaller bits, giving access to metals and things that humans could barely identify. Some Artifacts had resulted in additions to the Periodic Table of Elements. Others resisted analysis of any sort, like the Trident, which couldn't be harmed or even dug up, or scanned. They were everywhere and always had been so far as he was concerned. Now, sitting in a puddle of orange soda on the floor, tipped over table beside him, soda soaking the front of his shirt, Aaron found all thoughts of the dangers of Artifacts shoved aside as he was instead confronted with the dangers of older kids noticing him.
