Burglar Bernie Rhodenbarr, a New York City-based thief who excels in lock picking and breaking and entering. Addicted to the thrill it provides, Bernie's thefts are usually well-planned and executed. However, during the course of some of his burglaries Bernie encounters a dead body, usually just before the police arrive to investigate a tip.
