In The Course Of Human Events (a short story) A'Aklk and %Da sat below a panoramic display dome that swept up and over them, the way domes do over anyone lounging comfortably underneath them. Flittering across the dome were hundreds of smaller images, with no apparent demarcation between them, but easy enough to make out the distinct scenes if you were the thousand-eyed A'Aklk, or if you sensed things thru the ether as %Da did. In most of those scenes, fires raged over blasted cityscapes composed of mangled, toppled buildings, or humans dragged themselves on bloody stumps across ground turned into black glass. In a few, victorious armies celebrated, as yet unaware that the world they had won was dead. A'Aklk focused several eyes on %Da, with one pseudopod hovering over the 'reset' tab. "One of these epochs I'll beat you," it buzzed. "Go again?" %Da turned a shade of mauve meaning 'no, I'm tired of playing Earth, let's go get a shot of dark matter.' And that is how we all died.
