Seller Description
This is a vintage 1963 copy of A Clockwork Orange. We aren’t sure exactly what genre it belongs in. Some say science fiction, some say horror, others black comedy, or even dystopian future. We stuck it in Sci-fi because Pango doesn’t have all that many choices. We hear there’s a movie about it. We haven’t seen it. Fun fact: all US versions published before 1986 omit the last chapter of the original story wherein Alex (the main character, we hesitate to call him a protagonist) contemplates giving up his violent ways and becoming a productive member of society. US editors said American audiences would never go for the redemptive arc and so the last chapter was cut. Burgess regards the novel without the final chapter to be “deeply flawed.” The book is in good condition for a sixty year old book! It’s got some stains and some cover wear, but is holding together quite nicely. Not sure what to price it at. It’s been printed many times, but this is an early, second year copy. Is it collectible? We don’t know. Better buy it before we find out!
