Every now and then I think, Michael Scott-like, about the self-help book I'd like to write. I'd call it "So Random: How Random Numbers Helped Me Lose Weight, Avoid Stagnation, and Expand My Horizons." A lot of things I do are randomly chosen, sort of. Like right now my background show is Scribs, Season 5, Ep 2p, "My Lunch." I chose that from a list of 50 possible shows to stream in the background while I work, using a random number generator. I think that random numbers help avoid bad brain habits. For background TV, for example, I tended to have the same few shows over and over and was bored by them, but there are literally more than 10 shows to choose from, and confronted with endless choices my brain freezes a bit. So I listed all the shows I might want to stream and then I pick a show and season randomly each day. Of course, if there's something I want to watch, ai just watch it, because the point is avoiding stagnation, not limiting options. But this helps me make choices.
