Seller Description
This book is the classic guide to initiating dramatic activities in the classroom. "Creative Drama in the Classroom" teaches the non-specialist how to plan simple activities and to adapt material for use in creative drama and language arts programs. In this book, the author introduces students to a variety of genres and strategies, including mime, play structure, improvisation, and using drama the special education curriculum. Unlike other texts, McCaslin focuses on drama as an art form as well as a teaching tool. The author, the late Nellie McCaslin, was a theater historian and educator who was considered the country's leading authority on children's theater, died on Feb. 28, 2005 at St. Vincent's Manhattan Hospital at the age of 90. Example of a simple improvisational scene: "The scene is a toy shop on Christmas Eve. It is midnight, and the owner has just closed the door and gone home. At the stroke of midnight, the toys come alive and talk together. They may consist of a toy solider, a rag doll, a beautiful doll, a clown, a teddy bear, a jack-in-the-box, etc. Let us know by your conversation and movements who you are and why you were not sold."#Drama#Education#Teaching#Creativity#Theater#Psychodrama
