Everett H. Jones is a native of San Antonio, Texas, the city in which he now serves as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. He received his education in San Antonio public schools, the University of Texas and Columbia University. For his theological training he attended the Virginia Theological Seminary and the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He has received honorary degrees from the University of the South, the Virginia Seminary, and Trinity University in San Antonio. He has served churches in Texas, and for a time was a canon of the National Cathedral in Washington. Bishop Jones has served twice as a member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, and as president of the Texas Council of Churches. In his college years he studied journalism and worked as a newspaper reporter. He has continued this interest by publishing a weekly column entitled, "A Bishop Looks at Life." This column is now carried in more than 40 newspapers in Texas. He has chosen sixty of these messages to form this volume.
