Another classic of American literature. I would compare this book to ‘Manhattan Transfer’ to understand the significance of the writing style here, it’s arguably the beginning of post-modern and as hilarious as it is heart-wrenching. If you like Allen Ginsberg’s poetry, you might really like Selby’s prose here in ‘Last Exit to Brooklyn.’ Reader’s note: It also has early, albeit problematic and “gritty” depictions of trans and queer people. Written in 1957.
