*1984 *Has a spot of damage on cover, right upper corner (see pic) otherwise very clean copy with tight binding MOST PEOPLE who sew or do some kind of needlework tend to accumulate scraps of lovely tabric, embroidery floss, or yarn, which often go unused for want of appropriate projects. Many people also look for things that are relatively easy to make and no inexpensive. Scrap Crafts answers all of these needs. It provides dozens of designs that will use small amounts of fabric and other materials to create attractive and useful personal accessories, decorative accents for every part of the home, and toys and other items of special interest to children of all ages. To satisfy divergent interests, the projects also involve a number of different sewing and needlework techniques in addition to knit and crochet and cut-and-paste work with fabric. So, no matter what your talents or proclivities, you are sure to find many appealing items on the following pages that you can make for yourself or your family or give as gifts to friends. In the chapter "Personal and Decorative Accessories," for example, you will find a variety of fabric-covered frames, boxes, and other objects; a number of handsome pillow designs; and such interesting creations as a heart-inspired needlepoint design for framing, cachepots quilted in unusual leaf patterns, and an amusing draft stopper in the form of a parading cat family. In addition, the crafts used in that section alone include appliqué, piecing, crocheting, knitting, and a clever method of cutting and folding fabric that resembles piecing but requires only a fraction of the time. Instructions for all the techniques used in the book are either provided with a particular project or they are given in a special section at the back of the book, along with all the embroidery stitches and the basic directions for knitting and crocheting. Certain equipment required for making some of the projects in the book is so common that it has not been listed specifically. Such items include: pencils, colored pencils, a dry ball-point pen, a ruler, a yardstick, glue, paper-cutting scissors, and an iron. The same is true of such sewing equipment as the following: a sewing machine with a zigzag attachment, sewing and embroidery scissors, pinking shears, straight pins, sewing and embroidery needles, dressmaker's carbon, a tracing wheel, and a tape measure. Needless to say, all of the projects in the book can be made from leftover or newly purchased materials and the colors in any of the designs can be adapted to suit your own needs. The choice of what to make is now up to you.
