Some Zombie Stories, 9: A few years back the zombies started participated in Trick-or-Treat. Parent zombies shambled behind little kid zombies, or carried baby zombies. They wore tattered zombie versions of our costumes, raggedy superheroes, witches with moldy hats, brooms that were just sticks, they'd lost so many bristles. We decided we'd better have our kids trick-or-treat at some zombie houses so as to not upset the zombies. The kids were pretty reluctant because they were worried they'd get rotten candy bars or Tootsie Rolls that were grave-flavored, or candy corn. But after a few years it was just a tradition. Kids began comparing who got the worst candy from a zombie, with wormy Butterfingers facing off against circus peanuts. One kid a couple years ago got a whole finger. His mom made him take it back. Then candy companies started selling rotten candy, and zombie companies started selling real candy, and that wrecked it for everyone. Now we just stick to our own areas.
