I enjoy seeing authors create their own spin on these timelessly classic plays. Shakespeare’s contribution to understanding and challenging racism during his time period has always touched me. He is only one of a few playwrights during the 16th and 17th century that gave status to a black man. I find Othello and this version of Othello: Retold to be quite powerful! Don’t let a book full of 11 year olds make you think that this book isn’t crucial for adults and Shakespeare buffs alike! Happy reading!
