The other day, February 6, 2025 to be exact, I was finishing up my nightly drive with my son Dylan. As we started the final loop around the neighborhood, I could see across the park into the patio window of a house. They still had their Xmas tree up. And lit. Their tree was in full regalia as it were, 43 days after the holiday itself. I wonder what makes people leave the tree up? And lit? Are they still celebrating? Do they just like it? When will they take it down? I mean technically you could I guess leave it up all year, and, if you're going to leave it up into February, why wouldn't you just leave it up year-round? What's the cutoff point? My own preference is to put the tree up a week before Xmas, then take it down January 1. That way it never gets old and its limited appearance makes it seem more special, like when Cadbury Creme Eggs were only available right around Easter, back when the world was still good. Or at least not as bad as it is now.
