This new anthology, edited by horror writer Brian James Freeman, is a collection of what he calls “rare and lost material” written by his favorite authors. They include an uncollected short story, an essay written for an obscure venue, and chapters that were deleted from books prior to publication. Freeman writes: “‘Detours’” is meant to gather some of the fun and unusual material I’ve found over the years, along with a couple of original pieces that have never seen the light of day before now.“ The authors include Stephen King, Owen King, Clive Barker, Peter Straub, Dean Koontz, Ray Bradbury, and William Peter Blatty. If you are a Stephen King enthusiast, you will enjoy his short story “Memory,” which you’ve likely never read before. Another highlight: Blatty writes about the origins of his blockbuster novel, “The Exorcist.”
