Written in 1946, this novel is part of Fletcher’s Carolina series. It begins in 1179 on the river plantation in North Carolina of Senator Ferrier. The Senator had married a Spanish woman with a child, an eighteen-year-old beauty named Angela. But some of the freeholders in North Carolina are still clinging to the hope that the war will be over soon. Trying to arrange a suitable marriage for Angela is difficult because of her heritage and her rebellious nature. Interesting blend of romance, history, and adventure.
