Seller Description
First separate edition of the great Christmas classic. First published in HARPER'S BAZAAR in 1950 and first collected in the US edition of QUITE EARLY ONE MORNING, A CHILD'S CHRISTMAS IN WALES was a synthesis of Thomas's two earlier pieces on the same subject: "Memories of Christmas," a 1945 BBC talk, and "Conversation about Christmas," a 1947 essay. The author's own recording (for Caedmon Records in 1952), frequently credited as the beginning of the modern audiobook industry, was largely responsible for the piece's extraordinary and enduring popularity (and its eventual publication in this form) though its inclusion on the LP was a happy accident: at the recording studio, short of material to fill both sides of the record, Thomas racked his brains and remembered "a kind of a Christmas story" written for "some magazine." An attractive copy. 7'' x 5''. Original tan boards. In original unclipped ($1.50) dust jacket. 31, [3] pages. Lettering by Samuel Marsh. Slight soil to boards and rear endpapers. Jacket with toning to spine and edges, a few small closed tears.
