We could write all the praise that Ernest J. Gaines gets from The Washington Post and etc but honestly it would not do him justice. Ernest Gaines is one of the most important Black writers to exist. His insight into south can only come from a person that was born on a plantation in Louisiana. No shame, no fluff. Just raw truth told as fiction but experienced through reading as reality.
