This fall, Zodiac Academy by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti is everyone’s new favorite dark academia, spicy fantasy series. Set in a world called Solaria, these books transport readers to a realm full of Fae, shifters, and other paranormal creatures. Twelve powerful houses each have magical abilities that correspond to a zodiac sign, and their children are sent to the prestigious Zodiac Academy to learn how to use their powers. But when their long-lost rulers appear, the disruption to the status quo creates serious upheavals in the political landscape of Solaria as well as the personal lives of the main characters.

What is the Zodiac Academy series about?

Having grown up among mortals, twins Tory and Darcy Vega are shocked to discover that they are actually the long-lost Fae princesses of Solaria and that there is a throne waiting for them to inherit. In order to learn how to control their magic and navigate this new world, the Vega sisters enroll in the Zodiac Academy. 

However, not everyone is ready to hand over the keys to the kingdom. Four heirs to some of the most important houses in the realm, in particular, do not believe the twins deserve the throne and have made it their mission to stop them from claiming their inheritance. And when secrets are revealed and feelings arise, the Vega sisters’ path becomes more treacherous than ever.

Is there a prequel to Zodiac Academy?

Yes! Zodiac Academy 0: Origins of an Academy Bully is a prequel novella that takes place five years before Zodiac Academy 1: The Awakening. In this prequel, readers get a better understanding of Darius Acrux, his upbringing in a powerful Dragon Shifter family, and his difficult relationship with his father. Reading Origins of an Academy Bully makes readers more sympathetic to Darius despite his actions in the rest of the series. 

There is also another series that unfolds in the world of Solaria before Origins of an Academy Bully and the rest of the Zodiac Academy series. The Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac series centers around Elise Callisto, a vampire and student at Aurora Academy who is investigating her brother’s death. While at school, she enters into romantic relationships with four different Shifters with secrets and dangerous powers of their own. This reverse harem, paranormal romance series is packed with action, mystery, and fantasy, and takes place five years before the Zodiac Academy. 

Do you have to read Ruthless Boys before Zodiac Academy?

You do not have to read the Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac series first. In fact, many readers prefer to start with the Zodiac Academy, as they’re the most popular. On her website, Peckham shares that “there are no spoilers for any of the books across the series, but there is some character crossover and hints and clues to the other books if you keep an eye out for them.”
