The first time I downloaded PangoBooks to my phone and scrolled through the feed
I knew how Milton Wright felt when he was taken for a ride in his sons new “Flying Machine;” he had the joy of powered flight, I now have the ubiquitous joy of the PangoBooks “Feed.”
PangoBooks is holding a bookstore in my hand
I love the Feed; I am addicted to the Feed. I am not much of a social media guy, if you message me on my social media account you can expect it to be weeks before I notice it and reply but I am on the PangoBooks Feed all the time. I wake up and check the Feed; all day long and just before I go to sleep, I check the Feed. The beauty of the Feed is first; I never realized there were so many great book titles out there I had never heard of. Second, I get the same feeling as when I am browsing through a used bookstore when I scroll through the Feed. Next, I enjoy knowing that the books are being posted by a book-loving person just like me and not an algorithm drawing from a data base in some big warehouse. Finally, once I buy a book off the Feed, I actually love the pain of waiting for my book to arrive. I don’t have any tattoos, but those that do, tell me it is the pain that makes getting a tattoo so addicting. In this age of instant gratification and overnight deliveries, having to track and wait on my book to be delivered is a pain that feels like Christmas did to me as a kid, that was the last time I remember knowing a thing was coming that I wanted but I had to wait for it; tracking my book order is like seeing the package under the tree. It all starts with the feed.
PangoBooks is holding a bookstore in my hand but it is more than that, it is a throwback that is new, a “newback,” if that makes any sense, it’s a new way to do an old thing. It is dealing with real people; it is holding a book in your hand rather than a phone. You have to admit; in the airport, you have a higher level of respect for the person reading a real book, the book reader just seems more interesting. I tried the eBook and audiobook thing but I just could not seem to escape or travel to new places by reading or listening electronically, my mind always wanders. I love holding a real book, I love the smell of a real book.
