The Best Order to Read Emily Henry’s Books (And Her Most Popular Works!)

Published by Esther Fung, Feb. 26, 2025

As a lover of backlist titles, I don't keep up with many authors' new releases. Emily Henry is an exception.

Maybe it's the way she writes multi-faceted characters with relatable struggles and heartwarming arcs. Or maybe it's her talent for upending romance tropes in a way that's still satisfying and fun. But every time I pick up an Emily Henry novel, it feels like being wrapped in a warm embrace where I can be honest about my fears and hurts, because she'll be honest with me.

To celebrate the upcoming release of her newest book, Great Big Beautiful Life, I've put together this guide to reading Emily Henry's adult romances and young adult novels. See her most popular books and how to read all her works in order below.

Book agent Nora's dream is to be a book editor, but right now, her whole life is about taking care of her little sister, Libby. When the two go away to a small North Carolina town for a sisters' trip, Nora is shocked to run into Charlie, a moody editor from back in the city. What is the best Emily Henry book to start with?

You can really start with any Emily Henry book, since they are all stand-alones. However, we recommend beginning with Beach Read. Not only is it the first of her adult romcom novels, but the main characters, January and Gus, are also mentioned in her later works, which is really fun. It also happens to be my personal favorite book by her. See the Pango staff's Emily Henry rankings here!

Are any of Emily Henry's books made into movies?

We cannot wait for the film adaptations of Emily Henry's books. People We Meet on Vacation is currently being adapted by 3000 Pictures, with Yulin Kuang adapting the book. Kuang is also adapting and directing Beach Read. (The experience even inspired her to write her own novel, How to End a Love Story!) Book Lovers is being adapted by Tango, and the adaptation of Happy Place has been optioned by Nuyorican Productions, which is owned by Jennifer Lopez.
