A Guide to Divine Rivals and Its Special Editions

Published by Esther Fung, Oct. 26, 2023

Published in April 2023 by Wednesday Books, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross has become a favorite with romantasy (romance and fantasy) fans for the enemies-to-lovers arc, beautiful writing, and historical setting. In a world with warring gods, journalist Iris Winnow writes letters to her missing brother and receives anonymous responses back, not knowing they’re written by Roman Kitt, her rival at the Oath Gazette. This book is perfect for historical fiction readers, You’ve Got Mail fans, and anyone who wishes courtship was still done through letter writing.

Divine Rivals Special Editions

Like with the sprayed edges of Fourth Wing, which is another fantasy romance novel that came out in April 2023, special editions of Divine Rivals have been in high demand. For those looking to add this book to their shelves, take a look at all your options below.

The Original Hardcover Edition

The original cover of Divine Rivals (pictured left) features a black background with a blue flower across the design. The title is clearly emblazoned in gold across the center with gold typewriter keys representing the D and the R. Eye-catching and tantalizing, this design clearly conveys the magical elements of the novel and hints at the role letter writing plays, but doesn't offer more clues beyond that. Even without special features like sprayed edges, the original cover for Divine Rivals would still be a gorgeous edition to any collector's bookshelf.

As of this week, unread hardcover copies with this cover design are priced on PangoBooks at just $20. Snag your copy here.

The Fairyloot Edition

Fairyloot is a book subscription service that specializes in exclusive special editions of fantasy novels. Their edition of Divine Rivals features a young woman and a young man both reading the same letter. While the cover is in grayscale, the title and the author is printed in gold, and small gold stars adorn the design. The endpaper has a scrapbook-style design, with a drawing of Iris and Roman again in grayscale. This edition also features black sprayed edges with tiny gold stars, envelopes, and letters and a bonus chapter not in the regular printing. Sold out on Fairyloot, you can buy these editions here on Pango.
