Marilyn Sachs

Marilyn Sachs was an American author known primarily for her children's and young adult literature. Born on December 18, 1927, in New York City, she grew up during the Great Depression, an era that influenced much of her writing. After obtaining her B.A. from Hunter College and her M.S. in social work from Columbia University, she worked as a children's librarian, which helped to spark her interest in writing for young audiences. Sachs authored more than 40 books over her career, with a focus on realistic fiction that often tackled difficult subjects such as bullying, racism, and social injustice. Her works are celebrated for their sensitive and insightful portrayals of adolescent experiences, as well as their strong, relatable characters. Among her best-known books are "A Pocket Full of Seeds," "Lost in America," and the "Amy and Laura" series. Her literature has been commended for its ability to prompt discussion and reflection among her readers. Marilyn Sachs passed away on December 28, 2016.
