Karl E. Wagner (Editor)

Karl Edward Wagner (1945 – 1994) was an American writer, editor, and publisher of horror, science fiction, and fantasy literature. He is best known for his creation of the brooding swordsman Kane, a dark fantasy anti-hero based on the biblical Cain, who became the central character in Wagner's acclaimed series of sword and sorcery novels and short stories. As an editor, Wagner is recognized for his work on the "Year's Best Horror Stories" series, which he curated from 1980 until his death. In addition, Wagner edited several anthologies and collections, where he showcased a wide range of horror and fantasy fiction from both established authors and new talents. He won several awards for his writing and editorial work, including the World Fantasy Award and the British Fantasy Award. His influence on the genres of horror and dark fantasy is considerable, with many authors citing him as an inspiration.
