Iris Murdoch (1919-1999) was an acclaimed British novelist, philosopher, and academic. She wrote 26 novels, as well as plays, poetry, and essays, and was awarded the Booker Prize in 1978 for her novel The Sea, The Sea. Her works were often concerned with moral and spiritual issues, and she was a strong advocate for the role of literature in moral education.
