Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was an American author, essayist, and environmentalist. He is best known for his 1975 novel The Monkey Wrench Gang, which is widely considered an influential work of environmentalist literature. His other works include the non-fiction books Desert Solitaire and Abbey's Road, as well as numerous essays and memoirs.
