Alice Dalgliesh

Alice Dalgliesh (October 7, 1893 – June 11, 1979) was a Trinidadian-born American author, editor, and educator. She is well-known for her contributions to children's literature, with more than 40 books to her credit. Her works often reflect her interest in American history, exemplified by titles such as "The Courage of Sarah Noble" and "The Bears on Hemlock Mountain," both of which remain popular for their storytelling quality and historical detail. Dalgliesh was also notable for her time as a children's book editor for Charles Scribner's Sons, and for her work as a teacher and founder of the Children's Literature Department at the Bank Street College of Education in New York. Her influential career in children's literature was recognized with numerous awards and accolades.
